Surgical Treatment of Gynecomastia

Abstract
|
|
|
Gynecomastia or hypertrophy of breast in adolescent males is the most common lesion in males, accounting for about 65% of male breast disorders.
It is probably due to an imbalance of pituitary, adrenal, and testicular hormones, though most of the cases we see are idiopathic.
In any case, excision of the hypertrophied breast tissue through the classic periareolar incision is the most satisfactory treatment. However aconservative attitude be adopted prior to surgery since it is often a normal phenomenon of puberty.
